~~~The Workshop~~~
This workshop focuses on components of the Integrated Model of Interpreting (referred to as the Colonomos Model). Betty Colonomos provides a low stress, highly interactive environment in which participants learn how to convey equivalent messages by working with graduated texts and activities. Working on skills in small group formats, participants develop tools for understanding and improving their own internal processes. Participants also develop the language needed to discuss the interpreting task with each other and integrate strategies to continue their own improvement. Practice materials will be interpreted from English into ASL. This workshop is for hearing interpreters; a workshop for deaf interpreters will be held on a different date.
~~~The Presenter~~~
Betty Colonomos is a fluent ASL/English bilingual. She is the Director of the Bilingual Mediation Center and is well known for her interpreter training workshops. She has developed a widely used model for teaching cognitive processes used in interpreting. Her academic training is in the areas of Deaf Education and Speech Pathology, Counseling, and linguistics. Through the Bilingual Mediation Center, Betty provides instruction, consultation, mentorship, cross-cultural mediation, language assessment, interpreting, translation, and curriculum development work.

Vermont RID is approved by the RID CMP to sponsor continuing education activities. Foundations II offers 1.2 CEUs or ACET credits in the content area of professional studies. Foundations I has an introductory instructional level. There is a $10 processing fee for CEUs and ACET credits for registrants who are not members of VTRID.
