DEAF FOUNDATIONS 3 with Betty Colonomos and Jan DeLap
~Deaf Foundations 1 (not 2) prerequisite required~
This training is about HOW TO PERFORM THE MENTAL PROCESSES to interpret the message accurately, not about role, ethics, and responsibilities. Being a skilled signer is just a part of what it takes to be a competent interpreter as many Deaf people are realizing when they take this training. The workshop will focus on the Integrated Model of Interpreting (also known as the Colonomos model) in a low stress, highly interactive environment. Participants will learn how to USE VARIOUS MENTAL PROCESSES to produce an equivalent message by working through graduated texts and activities. Participants will DEVELOP TOOLS FOR UNDERSTANDING AND IMPROVING THEIR OWN INTERNAL PROCESSES. Participants will also develop language necessary to discuss interpreting work with both Deaf and hearing interpreters. We will also discuss strategies for continuing improvement.
