The address to the park is: 764 Dewey Mills Road, White River Junction and the Park Phone # is 802.295.2990

More info is in the email that Cory sent out a little while back. I am resending it, so keep your eyes peeled. That will include all the info on camping, booking, etc. Thanks for setting this up, Cory!

Dues Info
Thank you to all those who have gotten their dues in to either me or Keri! For those who sent them to me, I have deposited all checks and you are good to go for the list-serv. For those who sent it to Keri, you're time is coming! :) Janice has returned (YAY!!), and they will be getting together shortly to do the hand-off of duties. Just a reminder that if you paid via PayPal, you still need to send in your membership form with the transaction code to Keri so that we have documentation, and can put you on the list-serv. Many thanks!

Region One Update
Our current Region One Rep, Rebekah Barkowitz will be ending her term this summer. There are 2 candidates for her replacement. Word will be sent out once a decision has been made. Many thanks to Rebekah for her outstanding work - she has always been most helpful to me as president, and she made the trip all the way to Montpelier for the Soup Fest and VTRID Meeting!! :)

As of the last meeting, there were 15,000 RID members from last cycle. Not too shabby.A little under 10,000 have already renewed their membership. The VIEWS also just won an award for excellence in publications this past winter. Testing and results are moving along at a much better clip. Please let the rep know if this is not the case for you.

The national conference in Philly is just around the corner!! For those attending, the business meeting has shifted so that there are 2 separate sessions on 2 different days...same meeting, just not all in one day. Monday, August 3rd and Tuesday, August 4th, both from 8-12. The Region One Caucus will be happening on Monday, 8/3 from 7-9pm. There will be a raffle for a free registration to the Region One Conference for those who attend!!

The Region One Conference planning is underway. Trudy Gilbert and Kelly(?) are the co-chairs. They have asked if members would be interested in having childcare at the conference. VTRID was represented by Joan, supporting this great idea. More details to come.

If you are looking for a way to honor Carol Forest, you can send a check to Kari Caldwell for to VCDHH for scholarship, or a donation to any charity in her name.

Committee reports were sent out, people seemed to like the idea and have asked that reports be sent out again before the meeting. Questions / Comments will be held until the actual meeting date.

Staggering Terms: Keri O

Keri O, who couldn’t make the meeting, asked if we could have staggered officer terms, or having officers stay on in advisory roles of continuity. Staggering terms would require a change in the bylaws. The general consensus was that there have not been big problems and past officers are always available. Vote was that we not change the bylaws and officer terms at this point.

Voting New Officers: Elizabeth B

Officers: Lisa Bixler and Joan Pellerin co-Presidents,

VP/Secretary: Barb Walker

Treasurer / Membership: Keri Ogrizovich

All ran unopposed and where unanimously voted in.

Mentorship: Lisa B

It was reported to be a good year for the mentorship program. Because of its success, and the fact that many mentees are no longer using the program, the face of the VMP needs to change. It was suggested that the VMP funds merge to the VTRID’s general account and the VMP mentorship committee be put on hiatus until there is a need to reinstate.

Lianne M provided some history on the VMP— it was originally set up with a few thousand dollars of grants specifically for mentoring.

Things have changed, and there may no longer be need to continue to keep the funds separate. VMP typically offers: one-on-one mentors and the need has decreased, so we will de-emphasize that aspect of mentoring, but it will continue to be available for those who are interested. Interested individuals can also apply for VTRID scholarship funds if interested.

VMP funds could come back into the general coffers, and the scholarship committee has said they would apply the same guidelines for those requests.

Lisa will continue to field requests (via our website) for any one-on-one mentoring support.

Regarding the use of the VMP for one-on-one support and CDI mentoring was brought up. It was generally agreed that out-of-state mentors would be acceptable, since there is just one CDI in VT, and training requirements often stipulate work with a CDI specifically.

General Consensus was that VMP funds would transfer to the general VTRID fund.

Professional Development Committee:

Lynette and Lisa would join the PDC. Cory no longer wants to be on the PDC. Lianne is also willing. New Committee will send out an invitation to the membership for the PDC to recruit other members limiting the committee to 4 or 5 members. It is difficult to schedule meetings with a large committee. The PDC will have a discussion of professional development needs in VT with a broader group but keep the PDC to those who volunteered. Lisa will check in with the former members of the VMP and see if they are interested in transferring to the PDC. Although no longer on the committee, Cory is always willing to send things out on the list serve and maintain the website.

Donations: Elizabeth

Discussion about limiting the amount we donate to other causes. At this point we have $15,366.53 after the donation of $1200 to community fund.

The proposal to cap donations was voted down unanimously.

Requests for donations: VCDHH Golf Tournament June 26th, VCDHH's general appeal, both go to the same place so we need not do both,

It was voted $175 for the golf tournament.

A request for RID Convention Region 1 Caucus, other chapters have put in $100, voted $100.

VTRID will be paying registration for the VTRID President to go to the convention; Joan Pellerin will be the one to go.

Workshops:

PDC will discuss possible workshops and the email it out to members in order to prioritize what they will focus on. While VTRID expects workshops to be self supporting, expectations are that VTRID may have to support the Deaf Interpreter trainings. Betty Colonomos will do Foundations I for DI’s. JP has talked with Betty and Deaf people who are interested in interpreting. JP will also follow up directly with out of state DI’s.

The question arose whether VTRID at times, should subsidize particular workshops to some extent, above and beyond those for specifically for Deaf interpreters. The primary issue is how much risk VTRID is willing to take on any given workshop and whether having a deadline for people to register before the cancelling date would be a good way to mitigate unwanted cots. The question of willingness to support a workshop with say 18 people signed up on a workshop requiring 20 people is something that needs to be considered. Foundations 2 and the Deaf Foundations will contact the PDC for them to partner or take over the workshop organization. Officers could make the decisions about risk and such.

Scholarship Committee: Elizabeth

There were 17 scholarships this year and $2000 was the cap for the year on scholarships. Stephanie suggested that we support folks up to 50% of the cost with a $200 limit, with no annual cap. Elizabeth will no longer continue on the scholarship committee. To date: Cheryle G., Stephanie C, and Barb W are still on the committee. Funding in the past has come from general funds.

The scholarship committee will present a proposal, and ask membership for their feedback, via email, then incorporate feedback, resend for a membership vote (also via email).

Elizabeth B will contact Karen Todd and Nora Kennedy about possible joining the Scholarship Committee.

Meeting dates:

Sept 19th is the next meeting.

Cory will poll out to membership regarding the “How to take care of yourself” workshop, by Bethaney Long who is a Boston interpreter/Reiki master and would be interested in presenting for us. The cost is forty dollars per person, fifteen people minimum. If the minimum is not met Cory will cancel Bethaney.

Either way we would go ahead with the campout/retreat. It will be a potluck, with VTRID supplying continental breakfast.

For those who don’t want to camp, there is a B and B nearby.

Other dates:

Dec. 5 (with DVAS fundraiser). Time: TBD

March ??

June ??

(New board will propose dates at the Sept meeting).

Carrie Foster VRS presentation:

Carrie Foster was unable to come to today’s meeting, and was not prepared to present today.

Aside:

Dues are due—give or mail them to Elizabeth (Janice is out of town and handling finances until Keri takes over as treasurer).

Big thanks to the outgoing board from Amy, seconded by all. Thanks too to Lianne and Amy for interpreting the meeting.

Dennis Cokely Workshop: Kristal

All of the feedback from Dennis’ workshop was v. positive, although some people would have liked it to be more interactive.

Other workshop opportunities: Lynette

If anyone is interested in helping Michelle Abare and Keri Darling with their presentations to hospitals, (besides Lynette), it would be great. Elizabeth and Lianne volunteered to be available in their areas.

VIRS Update:

Nancy said another thank you to us for the 1,200 donated from the Dennis Cokely workshop for the Community Fund. Another thank you to Elizabeth for all of the committees’ hard work.

Aside:

Until the scholarship sends out a new proposal the old guidelines will remain. It was agreed that we will increase this coming years limit on scholarship funds to three thousand dollars (last year it was two thousand; funds ran out, and we are also encouraging deaf members to apply for funds for training this year).

Scholarships are designed to help with workshop registration. VocRehab may be a possible support for Deaf people who are looking to attend workshops.

Meeting adjourned: 2:00
