Scholarship Committee Guidelines and Application

To download an application, select either MS Word format (DOC) or Adobe format (PDF)

Guidelines:

1. Applicants
Applicants must be VTRID members in good standing.

2. Use of Funds
Applicants may request funds to cover registration fees of any activity that is in harmony with the goals of VTRID and that would provide further professional development to RID members, be it sponsored by VTRID or otherwise. This would include, but is not limited to: workshops, classes, conferences, and presentations on topics relating to ASL, Deaf culture/community, and interpreting.

3. Application Procedure
Applications may be submitted at any time via regular mail or email to the scholarship committee chair. Paper/email applications may be obtained from the scholarship committee chair. A copy or attachment of the event flier is requested if available.

4. Awarding of Funds
The scholarship committee will review the request and, upon arriving at a decision, the chair will notify the applicant as to the decision. If a request is granted, the treasurer will send a check to the applicant (or the event sponsor if necessary). This process can take up to 2 weeks.

5. Attendance at Funded Event
VTRID expects scholarship recipients to make every possible effort to attend the funded event. In the case of illness, accident, or if the funded event is cancelled, recipient must inform the scholarship committee chair or the VTRID president as soon as possible. If the event is not attended by the recipient, the committee chair or VTRID president must be informed, and funds returned to the committee.

6. Reciprocity
After attending the funded event, scholarship recipients are asked to report back to the VTRID community in a manner of their choosing. Some possibilities could include: giving a presentation at a VTRID meeting, writing a summary of the event, writing an article for the newsletter, etc.

7. Funding Limitations

  1. Scholarship will be 75% of the registration fee, up to $100.00
  2. Funding will cover registration fees only. Meals, lodging, travel expenses, etc. will not be covered.
  3. Being that the committee has a set amount of funding to award, recipients are also encouraged to seek other funding sources such as employers, agencies (including state agencies), etc.
